Carbon Credits
The Chicago Climate Exchange® (CCX®) was established to reduce emission of greenhouse gases (GHGs) through voluntary, but legally binding, commitments by member companies. Companies that reduce emissions to levels below target may sell surplus carbon credit allowances to other companies, while those that emit above target levels comply with their commitments by purchasing carbon credits from those who exceeded targeted reductions, or qualifying persons or entities that engage in management practices which sequester, destroy, or reduce GHG emissions. Farmers and ranchers utilizing low- or no-till farming practices or have planted new grasslands since January 1, 1999, or ranchers with qualified range plans may quality for participation in this program.
